The formula is built almost entirely on Centella Asiatica extract sourced from Madagascar, with barely anything between it and your skin - no fragrance, no essential oils, no secondary actives pulling in a different direction. For skin that has been over-exfoliated, over-treated, or has simply stopped tolerating a routine that used to work, that restraint matters more than any clever addition.
Centella earns its reputation through several active fractions working together - madecassoside, asiaticoside and asiatic acid - which is why a whole extract tends to outperform an isolated compound. The effect is on redness, irritation and barrier recovery rather than on anything dramatic or immediate.
In practice it is a step you add rather than one you swap in. Apply after cleansing and before moisturiser, morning and night. It layers under sunscreen without pilling and can be pressed on repeatedly through a bad week without overwhelming the skin.

Can I use this if my skin is already irritated?
That is the situation it is built for. There is very little in the formula to react to, so it can go on skin that has stopped tolerating a normal routine. Introduce it on its own for a few days rather than alongside three other new products.
Is an ampoule different from a serum?
In Korean routines an ampoule is usually more concentrated and lighter in texture than a serum. Practically, use it the same way: after cleansing and toning, before moisturiser.
Can I layer it with actives like retinol or acids?
Yes, and it is a sensible partner for them. Apply the active first, let it settle, then this. It contains nothing that conflicts.
How often should I use it?
Twice daily is fine. Because the formula is so simple there is no need to cycle it the way you would an exfoliant or retinoid.
What does centella actually do?
