Here they hold the active ingredients apart from the base formula until you break them down by massaging, which keeps those actives stable across the weeks a tube sits open in a bathroom. The alternative - dissolving everything through the formula from day one - means the product you use in week six is weaker than the one you bought.
The cleansing system itself is low-pH with gentle surfactants rather than high-foam sulfates, and BHA provides the pore-focused element. BHA is oil-soluble, which is why it reaches inside the pore rather than working only on the surface.
