The essence adds water; this holds it there. At 92% snail secretion filtrate, the formula carries the same glycoproteins in a bouncy gel-cream base - light enough that it never reads as an occlusive, substantial enough to seal a routine. The texture is the giveaway: it looks like a cream and behaves like a gel, springing back in the jar and absorbing without weight.
Betaine, panthenol and allantoin sit behind the mucin, all aimed at the same thing - skin that has been pushed too hard and needs a fortnight of recovery rather than another active. There is no added fragrance.
Use it as the last step of the night routine, over the essence. On combination and oily skin it also works in the morning under sunscreen. It is a particularly sensible partner to retinol or acids, applied afterwards to take the edge off without blunting them.
