Cleansing oils fail in one of two ways: they leave a film, or they strip. This one is built to do neither - a light ester base that dissolves sunscreen and sebum, emulsified by a single surfactant so it lifts away in one rinse. Heartleaf and rosemary leaf oil sit underneath, which is why it suits skin that is congested and reactive at once rather than only one of the two.

Anua's Heartleaf Pore Control Cleansing Oil Mild is the first step of the brand's heartleaf line, and the shortest formula in it - twelve ingredients, with no fragrance, no essential-oil blend beyond the rosemary, and no colourant.
The base is a set of light esters - ethylhexyl stearate, cetyl ethylhexanoate and caprylic/capric triglyceride - chosen because they dissolve sunscreen and sebum quickly and then emulsify away cleanly. A single surfactant, sorbeth-30 tetraoleate, does the rinsing, which is why the oil turns milky the moment water hits it and does not need a second cleanse to feel gone.
Underneath sit the two actives the brand is known for. Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil is sixth in the list, high for a cleansing oil, and works on sebum that has already settled inside the pore. Houttuynia Cordata Extract - heartleaf - is there to stop a cleansing step from tipping congested skin into redness.
In a Gulf routine it is the step that matters most: a full day of high-factor sunscreen has to come off completely, and a cleanser that only half-removes it is how congestion starts. Roll it over dry skin, then rinse several times with lukewarm water.

Do I need a second cleanser after this?
Not usually. It emulsifies on contact with water and rinses without a film, so most people use it alone at night. If you wear heavy long-wear makeup or a very high-factor sunscreen, a gentle foam afterwards will make sure nothing is left along the hairline and jaw.
Will a cleansing oil break me out?
The formula is tested as non-comedogenic and the base esters are light rather than occlusive. Congestion from an oil cleanser usually comes from it not being rinsed off completely, so rinse several times with lukewarm water rather than once.
Does it remove sunscreen properly?
Yes - that is the step it is designed for. Apply it to dry skin and dry hands, roll it over the face for around thirty seconds so it has time to dissolve the SPF, then add water to emulsify before rinsing.
Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
It is fragrance-free and only twelve ingredients, which is why we stock it for reactive skin. It does contain rosemary leaf oil, so if you react to botanical oils generally, patch test on the inner arm first.
How should I store it?
Between 10 and 30°C and out of direct sunlight, as printed on the carton. A bathroom shelf away from the window is fine; a car in summer is not.
